Naxos Town
10 minutes driving:
Chora is the capital and main town of the island of Naxos, Greece. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful Cycladic towns in the entire group due to its fine architecture, composed of Venetian and Cycladic elements. Naxos Town maintains an authentic and traditional character along with its distinctive local colours. Located about 2 km away from the airport, Naxos Town combines traditional with modern elements, as its whitewashed buildings have been converted into bars, cafes, restaurants, shops or even boutiques.
Apollon Temple - Portara
16 minutes driving:
Portara, or the Great Door, is essentially a massive marble doorway (of the Apollon temple), that stands proudly as the jewel of Naxos. It lies close to the port, on the islet of Palatia which was once a hill. Back in the ancient times, a strip of land connected the north side of Naxos port with the islet of Palatia. Today, it is the most photographed spot of the beautiful island and a stop that all tourists love to make, to enjoy the sunset.
Dionysus Temple
13 minutes driving:
The Temple of Dionysus was a sanctuary in ancient Naxos dedicated to the greek god Dionysus. Naxos was one of the cult centers of Dionysus in Ancient Greece, while this particular sanctuary was one of his main temples along with the temple in Thebes.
Demeter Temple
14 minutes driving:
The Temple of Demeter in Naxos is located near the village of Sangri. This magnificent temple has been made of the finest quality of local marble and is believed to date back to the 6th century BC. As Demeter was the ancient goddess of grain, in order to worship her people used to build temples close to fertile areas, such as the area around the village of Sangri, in Naxos.
Palaiologos Tower
5 minutes driving:
The renovated Palaiologos Tower is close to Sagri village, just beside the Byzantine church of Panagia Orfani. It is one of the famous Venetian Towers of the village.
Bazeos Tower
5 minutes driving:
Bazeos Tower is one of the most prominent sights in Naxos, located on the main road that connects Chora with the mountainous villages of Halki and Filoti. Dating back to the 17th century, the castle was built on this peculiar location as an attempt to keep its residents safe from the frequent pirate attacks that used to take place.
Belonias Tower
5 minutes driving:
This tower is one of the best preserved towers in Naxos, situated in the inland overlooking the sea on the way from Naxos Town to Glinado village (travelling in the direction of Kastraki, a short distance from Galanado in the Livadi valley). It is an imposing structure, which was built in 1600 and belonged to Ieronymos Somarippa. The location affords superb views of Chora – the island’s capital. This particular tower is now privately owned by Michalis Maragkos, and it is used as a residence.
Apano Kastro
10 minutes driving:
Apano Kastro is one of Naxos’ most impressive monuments. The rocky hilltop that it is built on has been of great importance from antiquity to Venetian times, and offers a superb sea view.
Kouros in Melanes
23 minutes driving:
The remarkable statue of Kouros can be seen outside the village of Melanes, in the countryside of Naxos. There is a second Kouros statue located outside the village of Apollonas, in northern Naxos. The statue of Melanes lies on the ground, at the exact position where archeologists found it. It is 6 meters long and dates back to the 7th century.
Hiking at Vivlos - Mesi - Potamia path
The path is 5.2km long and its starting point is very close to the accommodation. It is estimated that the average time to cross it is 1 hour and 40 minutes. The route consists of 8% asphalt, 23% dirt road and 69% path, as it is considered to be an easy route with a degree of difficulty 1/5. Walk through nature, enjoy its beauty and have a unique experience.
